Pacific Women's Basketball Rallies for 66-57 Overtime Win Over Puget Sound

The Pacific University women's basketball extended its winning streak to six with a 66-57 win over host University of Puget Sound.

The win improves the Boxers to 10-3 overall and 4-0 in the Northwest Conference, whereas the Loggers fall to 6-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

As the story has been all-season long for Pacific, it was an all-around team effort that played a role in its win. Camy Aguinaldo led the Boxers with 14 points as Pacific had three players in double figures. She was joined in double figures by Brilie Kovaloff, who had 13 points and seven rebounds, Courtney Carolan added 11 points and nine rebounds. Plus, Sydney Gray had nine points on two 3-pointers and 3-for-4 from the free-throw line and Rilee Price had six points, four rebounds and seven assists.

Puget Sound was led by Jamie Lange, who 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Loggers. She was joined in double figures by Rebekah Dasalla, who had 11 points.

After trailing for most of the contest, Carolan hit her third 3-pointer – first of the second half – with 1.4 seconds left to send the game to overtime. In the overtime, the Boxers filled with momentum outscored the Loggers, 15-6 in the five extra minutes en route to the win.

Before the heroics by Carolan, the defensive intensity and a clutch basket by Alexis Intong with :23 left made it a one-point game, 49-48. The one-point deficit was the closet that the visitors had been since an 8-6 margin with 3:37 left in the first quarter.

Needing the ball back and to possibly send the game to overtime, the Boxers fouled the Dasalla, who extended the lead to three with a pair of free throws with :17 left to play.

To get the game to overtime, the first crack at a came up short but Kovaloff came up with an offensive rebound to extend the possession. After a Puget Sound foul and :30 timeout with three seconds left, the Pacific coaching staff set up a play for the junior from the Spokane Valley to send the game to overtime with a 3-pointer. Carolan managed to knock down the shot to tie the game for the first time on the night and send the contest to overtime.

The two teams traded 3-pointers to start the overtime before Intong put Pacific ahead 56-54 with 2:58 left to play. The Boxers remained in front and allowed just three more points in the extra session and outscored Puget Sound by a 10-3 margin to seal the come-from-behind win.

Next up for Pacific is a matchup against Whitman at the Stoller Center on Friday, Jan. 17 at 6 p.m.
