Baruch Wins Third Straight, Defeat John Jay (69-62)

The Baruch College Bearcats trailed throughout most of the contest, but when it counted the most took control to record a 69-62 CUNYAC home win against the Bloodhounds from John Jay College on Monday night in the ARC Arena.

The Bearcats started slow trailing 8-0 at the start and 48-36 midway through the third quarter but made a run to get as close as 52-47 at the end of the third.

They scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter highlighted by a three by Frances Snyder to lead 55-52 with 7:05 left.

The two teams battled back-and-forth and were tied again at 57, but Snyder hit another three and Nia Dawson followed up with a layup to up the score to 62-57 at 2:53.

John Jay did not go away quietly getting as close as 65-62 with 19 seconds left but a pair of Milly Yee free throws built the score back up to 67-62, which was enough for the team's third straight win.

Melinda Spahiu had a double-double of 17 points, 10 rebounds and four assists in an all-around effort.

Sameera Ahmed was pivotal again with 16 points and Snyder finished with 14 points with six rebounds.

Dawson also had a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds to go along with four steals.

All'aha Albright was tops for the visitors from uptown with 20 points.

The Bearcats hit the road again for the third of four CUNYAC games this week on Wednesday at Medgar Evers.
