Women’s Basketball opens New Year with win over Morrisville, 74-58

BUFFALO, N.Y.— Tori Hackett (Canandaigua/Canandaigua) posted her first collegiate double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds as Buffalo State cruised past visiting Morrisville in non-conference action this afternoon in the Sports Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Liv LeBaron (Corning/Corning East) finished with a game-high 28 points, on 5 of 6 shooting from distance, to go along with eight rebounds, five steals and three assists.
  • Katie Villarini (Hamburg/Hamburg) chipped in 21 points and four rebounds.
  • Kendall Mills (Buffalo/Kenmore East) added six points and seven rebounds.
  • Both teams traded runs during the first 10 minutes of action, with Morrisville taking a 21-18 lead on a three-point field goal with only 14 seconds left.
  • Buffalo State responded by outscoring the Mustangs 25-11 in the second quarter, on the strength of 19 points combined from LeBaron and Villarini, to claim a 43-32 halftime lead.
  • Morrisville trimmed the lead to 51-43 with 3:58 left, but the Bengals closed the third frame on a 9-0 to take a 60-43 lead at the final intermission.
  • The Mustangs outscored Buffalo State 15-14 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough as the Bengals closed out a 74-58 victory.
  • Buffalo State outrebounded Morrisville 54-30, including 18-8 on the offensive end, en route to a 12-6 advantage in second-chance points.
  • The Mustangs outscored the Bengals 18-4 in bench production and 16-15 on fast break chances.

FOR THE FOES

  • Rachel Vieira finished with 19 points to lead the Mustangs.
  • Tori Rockefeller added 15 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
