Sewanee Women’s Basketball Falls Short at Millsaps

JACKSON, Miss. - The Sewanee women's basketball team held Millsaps to single digits in the final stanza, but the Majors held off a late charge by the visitors, defeating the Tigers, 52-47, Friday night from the Hangar Dome.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Trailing 12-4 with 2:36 left in the opening quarter, the Tigers dropped the deficit to four points, 12-8, thanks to two field goals by Allison Hitchock and Raquel Waller.

-The run continued into the second period, as Sewanee pushed the Millsaps lead to two points, but the home team went on an 8-2 run to make the contest more in favor of the Majors, 20-13.

-The Tigers were able to cut the deficit back to a two-possession game after 20 minutes of play.

-Millsaps pushed the lead back to a game-high 10 points in the third and led 43-33 at the end of the third period.

-The visitors came back into the game during the final quarter, out-rebounding the Majors, 9-4 and forcing five turnovers. However, despite not making a field goal for the final 3:35 and a Sewanee 5-1 run to end the game, Millsaps claimed the victory.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Ellie Treanton led Sewanee with 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting and added nine rebounds and five steals.

-Kinsley Logan added nine points, while Raquel Waller contributed seven points.

MILLSAPS KEY STATISTICS
-Dia Fortenberry led the Majors with a double-double, posting 23 points and 10 rebounds.

The Tigers will next take on Birmingham-Southern on Sunday afternoon from the Magic City.
