Oxy Routs Bethesda in Thanksgiving Classic

PASADENA — The Occidental women's basketball team made easy work of Bethesda in a 67-38 win at Caltech on Friday afternoon.

The Tigers outrebounded the Flames 58-34 and held Bethesda to just 24.6 percent shooting from the field, while forcing 20 turnovers.

Taylor Yoshida led Oxy with 11 points, six rebounds and four steals, Mallory North had nine points, six rebounds and three steals, and Raveena Dhiman had 10 points, six rebounds and five assists. 

Maylene U. Hughes had a big game for Oxy with eight points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists.

"I thought we did a nice job of controlling the tempo," Oxy head coach Anahit Aladzhanyan said. "Our collective effort on defense was the difference maker in this one."

Oxy jumped out to a big lead, holding Bethesda to just 18 points in the first half and only allowed 20 points in the second half.

Paige Williams led Bethesda with 20 pionts, five rebounds and five steals, and Antonette Dorsey chipped in 10 pionts off the bench.

Oxy scored big off the bench with five players totaling 27 points, led by Tomi Eijima and Kiarra Young with seven each.

Season Impact: Oxy improves to 2-2 on the season.

Bethesda falls to 0-9.

Next Game: Oxy returns to action at home on Saturday, playing Bard College at 4 p.m.
