Sewanee Women’s Basketball Heads into SAA Tournament with Commanding Win on Senior Day

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee women's basketball team was dialing up shots from long distance to defeat the Colonels of Centre, 73-54, Saturday afternoon inside Juhan Gymnasium. The team celebrated Senior Day in the regular season finale.

CLASS OF 2019!
In between the women's and the men's basketball game, four seniors, Sue Kim, Kelley Myers, Katie Roth and Bella Taylor were honored for their dedication to the women's basketball program.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The teams played an intense opening quarter, but it was the Tigers who led 19-18 after one quarter.

-Trailing 25-21 with 7:45 left in the opening half, the Tigers went on a 13-3 run to lead 34-28 with 2:48 remaining.

-The Tigers led 38-32 at the break, and the second half belonged to the Purple and Gold. Sewanee outscored Centre 35-22 in the final 20 minutes to secure the win.

-The Colonels entered the weekend ranked 17th in the nation in scoring defense with 50.5 per game. The 73 points Centre allowed Sewanee is the second-most points the season. Centre allowed 81 to then No. 2 Thomas More on Dec. 30.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Kinsley Logan led all scorers with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting. The freshman drained 5-of-8 shots from 3-point range.

-Abby Young dropped 10 points off the bench.

-Bella Taylor scored 10 points and added eight rebounds and four assists and steals each. The senior is now 10 points away from tying Sophie Brawner (C'83) for second all-time in program history in career points. Taylor will enter the SAA Championship with 1,579 points.

-Sue Kim scored nine points and four rebounds and steals each for Sewanee. She will enter postseason play needing two to tie Kayla Goodwin's (C'02) 371 for the most in school history.

CENTRE KEY STATISTICS
-Abigail Wehby was the only Colonel in double figures with 11 points.

UP NEXT
The Tigers will turn their attention to the 2019 SAA Championship, beginning Friday with the quarterfinal round. Millsaps, who won the regular season championship, will host the three-day event. Matchups and game times are to be determined.
