WASHINGTON, Pa. (Feb. 16) -- An early fourth quarter run helped the W&J women's basketball team pull away for a 65-53 win over Grove City College in the Presidents' Athletic Conference regular season finale.

The win was the fourth straight for the Presidents, who finish the regular season with an 18-7 overall record and a 13-3 conference mark. The Presidents have locked up the second-seed for the upcoming PAC Tournament. The loss drops Grove City to 15-10 overall and 10-6 in PAC play. The Wolverines have secured the three seed for the conference tournament.

Sophomore forward Alie Seto (Allison, Pa./Brownsville) finished with a game-high 20 points to lead all scorers in the W&J victory. The sophomore has recorded 20 or more points in a game four times this calendar year, each of which resulted in conference victories.

Senior forward Danielle Parker (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) registered 16 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Parker put together an efficient offensive performance, converting all six field goal attempts and each of her four free throw chances on Senior Day.

W&J came out strong to start the contest, building an early 8-2 advantage after back-to-back baskets by Seto and Parker. After two free throws by Grove City, the Presidents tacked on six more points, including a pair of free throws by sophomore guard Hannah Johnston (East Freedom, Pa./Central) to swell the lead to 14-4 at the 2:58 mark.
A pair of layups by freshman guard Aleena McDaniel (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) helped W&J carry a 20-10 lead into the second quarter.

After W&J got a layup by sophomore guard Brooke McCleester (Johnstown, Pa./Conemaugh Valley), the visiting Wolverines tallied 11-straight points to cut the deficit to just one (22-21) with 5:21 to play in the second quarter. The Presidents continued to hold the lead, using two free throws by Parker and a layup by McDaniel to take a 30-25 lead into halftime.

Early in the third quarter, McDaniel converted another layup opportunity to extend the W&J lead to seven points (36-29) at the 7:46 mark. Grove City responded with an 11-2 run to take a 40-38 lead on a three by Jess Bowen with 4:30 to play. However, the Presidents quickly regained the lead when McCleester drained a pair of free throws and Seto tacked on a three-point play. A layup by Johnstown late in the latter stages of the quarter gave W&J a 47-44 edge heading into the fourth.

The Presidents opened the fourth with nine straight points while holding the Wolverines scoreless for more than five minutes. During that time, five different Presidents scored to extend the lead to 56-44 with 4:35 left. W&J would hold at least an eight-point lead for the remainder of the game.

McDaniel finished with 12 points to join Seto and Parker in double figures. Freshman guard Kylie McKennen (Triadelphia, W.Va./Wheeling Park) dished out a game-high six assists while adding five points and five rebounds. Bowen led Grove City with 15 points and six boards.

As a team, W&J converted 50 percent from the field, hitting on 22-of-44 attempts. The Presidents added 20-of-24 (83.3 percent) from the free throw line. Grove City converted just 29.5 percent from the field, including a combined four-of-34 in the first and four quarters.

W&J has earned a double bye and will face an opponent to be determined in the PAC Tournament Semifinals on Friday, Feb. 22. Start time is scheduled for 5:30 PM in Latrobe, Pa. Both semifinal tilts Friday night and the championship game on Saturday will be hosted by top-seeded Saint Vincent College.

NOTE: Prior to the contest, W&J honored both Parker and Jordan Melko as part of its Senior Day festivities. Parker has recorded 1,293 points, 784 rebounds and 119 blocks during her four-year collegiate career. The team has compiled an 80-29 overall record, which includes a 57-13 mark in league games over the past four seasons.
