NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Playing in the final home regular season game of their careers, Christopher Newport seniors Jessica Daguilh, Madison Howdyshell, and Zhara Tannor combined for 40 of the Captains' 70 points in a 70-59 win at home on Saturday afternoon. CNU (18-5, 9-3) edged out Frostburg State (14-8, 6-6) behind a double-double from Daguilh with 22 points and 11 rebounds.

CNU maintained their position tied atop the Capital Athletic Conference standings with the win, improving to 9-3 against league foes with two regular season games remaining.

Daguilh shot 7-for-15 from the floor and 8-of-10 from the free-throw line to finish with 22 points in the contest. She saved her finest effort for the fourth quarter where the Captains distanced themselves from the Bobcats, scoring eight points and grabbing five rebounds with two blocks and a steal in the frame.

Also celebrating Senior Day with Daguilh, forward Madison Howdyshell finished with 9 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals in a team-high 34 minutes of action and guard Zhara Tannor managed 9 points, 4 assists, and a steal in 31 minutes of play. The trio scored over 57% of the Captains scoring output in their final regular season game at the Freeman Center.

Frostburg State jumped out to an early lead, racing out to a 12-3 lead in the first quarter as the Captains shooting did not turn the corner until the final four and a half minutes of the opening stanza. CNU closed on a 15-3 run to take a one-point lead after the first ten minutes. Kiana Kirkland and Jasmine Norman hit back-to-back three-pointers before a pair of layups by Daguilh. Tannor hit a pair of free-throws and Sondra Fan capped the run with a layup.

The second quarter saw the teams entrenched in a back-and-forth battle with the lead changing hands five times in the first half. After Frostburg took a three-point lead, 24-21, with 5:41 remaining, the Captains put together another big run by scoring the next 12 straight points unanswered. Free-throws by Howdyshell, Daguilh, and Phylicia McInnis stretched the lead to 9 points, 33-24, with two minutes remaining. The Bobcats teetered back, however, with an 8-0 run with all eight points scored by junior Victoria Diggs in a span of 31 seconds.

With the momentum shifting back and forth, Christopher Newport carried a 35-32 lead into the locker room.

CNU never trailed again, despite the Bobcats knocking the lead down to one twice early in the second half. Rookie Natalie Terwilliger took over for a stretch in the third quarter, scoring seven straight points for CNU to extend the lead back to eight, 48-40. In addition to the seven points, she added 7 rebounds and 2 blocks in the third quarter. She then gave way to Daguilh in the fourth quarter as the Captains pulled away for the win.

Diggs finished with 27 points and 6 rebounds for the Bobcats, while Megan Kelly added 7 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists. CNU held Frostburg State to just 37.9% shooting (22-58) and 28.6% from long range (6-21).

Terwilliger finished with 9 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 blocks to lead CNU's production off the bench, while Jasmine Norman also added 7 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals.

The Captains will travel to Salisbury University on February 13 for a 5:30 pm tip against the Sea Gulls. Live stats and live video will be available with links at CNUsports.com.
