BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England finished with a 12-3 run to secure a 72-63 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's basketball triumph over Curry College on Wednesday evening (Jan. 30) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

With the result, the Nor'easters (10-11, 8-4 CCC) move a half game in front of the Colonels (10-9, 7-4 CCC) in the league standings. The season series is now split, following a nine-point spread in favor of CC earlier this month.

The sixth lead-change in the 4th quarter set UNE ahead, 60-58, with 4:15 to go, but Curry knotted things on its next trip. The subsequent three-pointer from Ashley Coneys put the hosts on top for good (63-60) at the 3:30 mark, and she added two freebies before an elbow jumper to all but seal it (67-63) with 120 seconds remaining. The Colonels' last three possessions ended with turnovers.

Coneys and Abby Cavallaro paced the Nor'easters with 18 points apiece, while Coneys and Sabrina Johnson shared the game-high of nine rebounds. Jocelyn Chaput contributed 16 points, eight boards, and five assists.

UNE shot 47 percent (25-for-53) in the contest to overcome 22 turnovers, and had a 43-29 advantage on the glass.

Curry got 21 points and nine rebounds out of Peyton Perine. Emily Irwin added 16 points along with six caroms, five steals, and four assists. Molly Plunkett and Amanda Leal totaled 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Irwin's first basket of the night made her the program's career scoring leader at 1,466 points.

The Colonels jumped out to a 15-9 cushion, but Sadie Nelson and Madalyn Sanborn combined for nine as a 12-2 run wrapped up the 1st frame with UNE holding a 21-17 edge. The lead grew to as many as eight (30-22) in the 2nd, however the visitors trailed by just two (35-33) at the break.
