NEWBERG, Ore. - Maegen Martin recorded her third double double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds and the Whitman College women's basketball team turned a two-point halftime lead against previously unbeaten George Fox into a 73-54 rout on Saturday night at Wheeler Sports Center.

Makana Stone was her usual dominant self, equaling Martin with a team-high 17 points on 11 rebounds for her third double double in as many games. Mady Burdettadded 13 points and six rebounds.

The matchup pitted the league's top two teams but by game's end it were the Blues (12-3, 6-0 NWC) who stood alone at the top as the conference's only undefeated team. The Blues dominated the offensive boards for a 53-40 rebound advantage leading to 17 second chance points.

After George Fox (12-3, 5-1 NWC) tied the game just seconds into the third quarter, the Blues reeled off 11 straight points to quickly go up double digits. The Blues outscored GFU 31-11 in the period to put away what looked to be a tight game throughout.

Emily Spencer scored a game-high 18 points in the Bruin effort with Emily Holder pulling down 12 rebounds.

The Blues got off to a fast start and, while George Fox got their offense going, never trailed in the period. Kaelan Shamseldin's three pointer gave her team an early 7-2 lead and later, Martin's jumper pushed the advantage to 15-9 with just under three minutes to play. GFU scored six straight points to tie the game but Natalie Whitesel's bucket regained the lead for the Blues heading into the second quarter.

Whitman would go down four midway through the second period when Kylin Collman's layup put the Bruins up 27-23. The Blues rallied, tying the game on a Stone jumper before taking 31-29 lead into the break.

The game was all but over just minutes after the teams returned to the court. Shamseldin's three-pointer spearheaded the early run and put her team up 11 points. The Bruins went 3:05 without scoring a point as Whitman built its first double digit lead. A second run, this time a 14-2 jaunt headlined by a Burdett three-pointer, swelled the lead to 21 points and the Blues never looked back.

Whitman returns to action next weekend for its first home contests of the new year. The Blues square off with Pacific Lutheran on Friday, Jan. 12 at 6:00 p.m.
