Oxy Falls to No. 13 Saint Joseph's

LOS ANGELES — The Occidental women's basketball team fell 69-50 against No. 13 Saint Joseph's (Maine) at Rush Gym on Friday.

"We did some nice things, but overall we were not solid enough on either end to get the job done," Oxy head coach Anahit Aladzhanyan said. "All the credit goes to Saint Joseph's. They played hard and really punished us with their outside shooting."

Kelsi McNamara and Julia Champagne did the bulk of the damage with 49 combined points and 11 made threes between them. McNamara scored a game-high 26 points on 9 for 14 shooting, including 6 for 7 from three, and Champagne had 23 points on 7 for 10 shooting and 5 of 6 from three.

Alyssa Ramlochan led Oxy with a double-double, scoring 15 points with 11 rebounds. Taylor Yoshida went 5 for 7 for 11 points, Emily Leonard had eight points and four rebounds, and Raveena Dhiman added 10 points off the bench.

The Tigers started slow on offense with just seven points in the first quarter, but picked it up in the second, going into the locker room down 30-23. Saint Joseph's extended its lead to 13 by the end of the third and kept up the pace in the fourth.

Oxy struggled shooting at 30 percent from the field, but took care of the ball with just nine turnovers and forced Saint Joseph's into 18. 

Saint Joseph's won the battle on the boards 46-29.

Season Impact: The Tigers' record goes to 6-5 overall.

Saint Joseph's remains undefeated, moving to 12-0.

Next Game: Oxy is back in action at Caltech on Jan. 5 in a SCIAC game.
