UW-Whitewater Women Top 100 Points in Victory

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team finished the 2018 calendar year with its regular season non-conference finale Saturday afternoon, besting Methodist (N.C.) 101-36 on the second day of Transylvania's Pat Deacon Classic in Lexington, Ky.

 

The Warhawks (7-4 overall) topped 100 points for the 10th time in program history and first time since 2013. The team's 101 points are tied for the sixth-most in one game in the team record book.

 

UW-Whitewater's 65-point margin of victory is the fourth-highest in school history and largest since 1996, when the team bested Rockford (Ill.) by 76 points.

 

A total of 13 players scored for the Warhawks, including sophomore guard Emily Schumacher, who tallied a game-high 18 points, all in the first half, to go along with five rebounds and two steals. Freshman guard Veronica Kieres posted 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting, while senior forward Olivia Freckmann collected nine points to go along with team bests of seven rebounds and four steals.

 

Junior guard Becky Raeder registered 10 points, and sophomore guard Adriana Green recorded eight points, three rebounds and three assists.

 

UW-Whitewater grabbed 25 offensive rebounds on its way to 28 second-chance points, and forced 26 turnovers, including 20 in the first half, for 40 points off turnovers.

 

The Warhawks scored the first five points of the contest and didn't look back, finishing with 34 first-quarter points followed by 31 in the second for 65 first-half points and a 44-point advantage.

 

UW-Whitewater's final margin of victory represented its largest lead of the game.

 

The Warhawks open Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Wednesday against UW-Stevens Point. Tipoff at Kachel Gymnasium is slated for 7 p.m.
