PURCHASE, N.Y. – Thanks in large part to a game-opening scoreless streak that stretched late into the second quarter, the Manhattanville College women's basketball team broke the record for fewest points allowed in a game with a 57-12 victory over the York College (N.Y.) Cardinals Wednesday, Nov. 14 from Kennedy Gymnasium.

Manhattanville (3-0) held York (0-1) without a point for almost 19 minutes, before a Cardinals free throw got them on the board with 1:12 left in the first half. The Valiants had twice held a team to 13 points in program history, the most recent instance occurring on Dec. 4, 1999 against Merchant Marine. Manhattanville also forced 35 turnovers, the most in a single game since the Keuka College Wolfpack committed 42 turnovers in the 2015-16 season opener on Nov. 14, 2015.

Offensively, senior Kayleah McGuire had 11 points and eight rebounds for Manhattanville, sophomore Amanda Pemberton added 11 points and five rebounds, and the freshmen trio of Ali Mikaele, Jada Rencher, and Faith Johnson-DeSilvia combined for 23 points and 17 rebounds. Sheahna Roscher had four points and six rebounds to lead the Cardinals.

McGuire had eight of her 11 points in a first quarter that concluded with a long, off-balance three-pointer from sophomore Spencer Shore that put Manhattanville up 18-0. The Valiants stretched their lead to 32-0 before the Cardinals found their way onto the scoresheet. York added their lone made field goal of the half in the closing seconds of the half as Manhattanville took a 32-3 lead to the locker room.

Matching its defensive intensity from the first 10 minutes, Manhatanville held York without a point in the third quarter, as it opened a 49-3 lead heading to the final quarter. The lead grew to 51-3 before two York three-point baskets in a span of just over four minutes.

After three games in six days to open the season, the Valiants are off from game action for six days, as the team returns to the court next Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. on the road against Baruch College.
