ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's basketball picked up its third-straight win on Saturday afternoon as the Soaring Eagles used a well-rounded attack to down the visiting Wildcats of Pennsylvania College of Technology by a final score of 69-58.

Elmira never trailed in Saturday's matinee, as the Soaring Eagles seized the lead 37 seconds into the contest and never looked back. The Purple and Gold had a quartet of players finish in double figures, led by freshman standout Alyssa Waters '22, who dropped a season-high 19 points. Sally Hogan '19 registered 16 points and eight rebounds, while Rachel Vespucci '19 tallied her second-straight double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Bridget Yaw '20 rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 points.

EC was dominant on the boards all afternoon as the Soaring Eagles pulled down 48 rebounds compared to the Wildcats 34. The Purple and Gold turn those opportunities into 16 second chance points, while outscoring Penn College in the paint, 48-36.

After taking an 18-13 lead at the end of the first quarter, EC's offense came alive in the second quarter. A 7-0 run kick-started by a trey from Waters saw the Purple and Gold race out to a 27-15 advantage.  EC ratcheted down on defense from there, as the Soaring Eagles held the Wildcats to six points during the quarter while forcing them to shoot a paltry 16.7-percent from the field. A jumper from Hogan and a free throw from Heaton with one second left on the clock sent Elmira into the half with a 40-19 advantage.

Penn College mounted a comeback in the third, a trio of shots from deep cut EC's lead to 46-36 with 3:45 left in the quarter. Despite the surge from the Wildcats, Hogan and Yaw combined for six points over as the quarter wound to a close to keep Elmira in the lead. Elmira continued to trade blows with Penn College in the final quarter, but a three-point play from Waters re-asserted EC's lead with just over six minutes to play. Despite the Wildcats best efforts, Yaw sealed the win with an easy jumper with 12 seconds on the clock.
