DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University women's basketball team opened Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play at home against Manhattanville College on Wednesday night, but dropped a 70-59 decision.

The Valiants remained perfect at 7-0 on the season while the Aggies dropped back to .500 at 3-3 overall.

DelVal trailed by one, 6-5, early in the game, but Manhattanville went on to outscore the Aggies 9-4 the rest of the stanza to take a 15-9 lead into the second quarter. DelVal got buckets from four different players in the opening 10 minutes.

Ali Mikaele converted an and-1 to start the second and put the Valiants up by nine, but the Aggies responded with a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to two, 18-16. Dom Moser capped the spurt with a deep trey, her first basket of the game.

Danielle Skedzielewski hit a three of her own to make it a 24-21 game with 5:09 remaining before the half, but Manhattanville scored 11 of the next 15 points to open up a 10-point, 35-25 lead. DelVal fought back to keep it close, and went to the locker room trailing by nine, 43-34.

The Aggies pulled to within six points of the Valiants in the third quarter and trailed by eight on four different occasions, but went into the fourth down 10, 59-49. They ended the quarter on a four-point run thanks to consecutive layups by Emily Kutskel and Dom Moser.

In the fourth quarter, Lauren Moretti hit a 3-pointer followed by a layup to make it a 62-56 game with 2:42 left in regulation, but Manhattanville scored the next six points to extend its lead to 68-56. Moretti fired back with another three ball at the other end to make it a nine point game with 1:07 left, but it was not enough, as the Valiants came away with the 70-59 victory.

Moretti finished with eight points and six rebounds to go with two steals. Moser led the team with 18 points and seven assists and added seven rebounds and two steals. Kutskel also grabbed seven boards and pitched in 10 points while Skedzielewski finished with eight points three rebounds and two assists.

Four different players reached double-digit numbers in scoring for Manhattanville. Sarah Coutu led the way with 18 points and 10 rebounds to go with three steals. Kayleah McGuire followed with 13 points and nine boards while Amanda Pemberton notched 12 points and Mikaele finished with 11.

Neither team was efficient from the field as the Aggies shot 23-for-57 (40.4%) from the field and 6-for-20 (30%) from 3-point land compared to 23-of-60 (38.3%) and 4-of-10 (40%) shooting from the visitors.

DelVal will look to bounce back with another MAC Freedom game on the road at Eastern University on Saturday, December 8 at 1 p.m.
