- The Lead: MIT outscored Clark University, 31-11, in the third quarter en route to a 90-49 victory in NEWMAC women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon. One of five players to reach double-digits in scoring, senior Kara Holinski (Livonia, Mich.) paced the Engineers with a game-high 16 points while dishing out four assists. Camryn Richey generated a team-high seven points in 13 minutes of action for the Cougars.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- After a back-and-forth start to the game, a jumper by sophomore Jocelyn Luizzi (Colchester, Conn.) ignited a 21-7 run which resulted in a 24-12 lead at the end of the quarter. MIT's surge was fueled by 14 points that came off eight Clark turnovers.

- The Engineers carried the momentum into the second stanza as they generated a 14-2 burst during the first five minutes, before entering halftime with a 44-22 advantage.

- MIT's margin grew to 45 (69-24) at the 3:14 mark of the third quarter courtesy of junior Cindy Si's (San Antonio, Texas) fastbreak layup which came after a steal by first-year Paula Pieper (Greenville, S.C.). The remainder of the game was a balanced affair as the Cougars had a 25-21 edge in scoring.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- First-year Christina Antonakakis (Holmdel, N.J.) tallied 15 points, three assists, and three steals while senior Sophie Gershon (New York, N.Y.) posted 14 points and five rebounds. Si totaled 11 points, followed by 10 from senior Taylor V'Dovec (Blaine, Wash.).

- Luizzi grabbed a game-high eight rebounds as sophomore Kylie Gallagher (Upton, Mass.) produced seven rebounds and two blocks. Senior Kristen Ngan (Sudbury, Mass.) dished out a career and game-high six assists.

- Emily Sifferien registered five points, a game-high four steals, and two assists while Hannah Favaloro hauled in seven rebounds for Clark.

- MIT ended the day with advantages in rebounds (46-44), points in the paint (32-18), points off turnovers (39-13), second-chance points (15-7), and bench scoring (52-28).

- Both teams continue NEWMAC play on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 7:00 p.m. as MIT will host WPI while Clark will travel to Smith College.
