Bick's Strong Game Not Enough For Yeshiva Against St. Joseph's Brooklyn

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's basketball team suffered a Skyline Conference loss to St. Joseph's College Brooklyn, 98-59, at the ARC Arena on Tuesday evening. The Bears advance to 2-0 in the Skyline (3-2 overall), while the Maccabees drop to 1-1 in the conference (3-2 overall).

Leading the way for the Maccabees was senior guard Nicole Bick, who led all players with 28 points including five 3-point field goals. Junior forward Tehilla Teigmanproduced 12 points with eight boards. Senior forward Michal Alge brought down a team-high 14 rebounds, while scoring seven points, forcing four steals, distributing three assists, and blocking one shot.

Yeshiva got off to a strong start as a 3-pointer by Bick opened the scoring. Later in the period, Teigman successfully executed a jump shot to help the Macs regain the lead, 5-4, with 6:54 remaining. The Bears countered with a 7-0 run to jump out in front. Yeshiva would temporarily hold off St. Joseph's rally, as sophomore guard Adina Rosenberg found classmate Chana Boltax, who drained a 3-point field goal to pull Yeshiva to within three, with 3:17 left in the opening period.

From that point on, the Bears would tilt momentum into their favor by scoring 13 unanswered points to end the quarter, putting Yeshiva in a 24-8 deficit after 10 minutes of play. St. Joseph's dominated the second period as well, outscoring Yeshiva by a 35-19 margin. The Bears outscored the Maccabees, 39-32, in the second half and went on to win the game in convincing fashion.

For the Maccabees, sophomore forward Lindsay Brandwein scored two points with four rebounds, while senior guard Penny Rabin scored three points and had just as many rebounds. Freshman forward Elizabeth Pavel and Rosenberg each scored two points, while sophomore guard Leah Shulman forced three steals. First-year guard Tova Mamannforced a steal of her own, while sophomore forward Celia Cohen collected two steals and grabbed a carom. 

For the Bears, freshman guard Kelly O'Donnell produced a double-double with 20 points and 23 rebounds, while dishing out six assists and collected a pair of steals.

Yeshiva will be back in action Thursday, for a Skyline matchup at Mount Saint Mary College, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
