Finken Fuels WPI Victory Over Bridgewater State at UNE Tournament

Biddeford, ME --- Freshman McKenna Finken (Simsbury, CT) established a career-high of 17 points to help lead the WPI women's basketball team to the Hampton Inn Tip-Off Tournament title game with a 69-57 victory over Bridgewater State Saturday night at University of New England.

The Engineers improve to 3-0 while the Bears slip to 0-2 on the young season. WPI will take on Conn. College at 3pm and Bridgewater State will face the host Nor'easters in the 1pm consolation game.

Junior Spencer Vinson (Los Angeles, CA) scored 12 points and recorded team-bests of eight rebounds and two blocks, and freshman Bailey Savage (Charlton, MA) followed with 11 points. Sophomore Caitlin Boermeester (Billerica, MA) doled out a game-best four assists and shared game-high honors with senior Alyssa Paul (Schaghticoke, NY) as they both registered a pair of steals.

Senior Kailyn Aguiar (Acushnet, MA) notched a double-double of 12 points and a contest-best 10 rebounds while junior Kayla Carter (Beverly, MA) led the Bears with 13 points on the night. Senior Sara DaSilva (Chelmsford, MA), sophomore Destiny Fitzgerald (Medford, MA), and junior Nicole Bostick (Bridgewater, MA) led the team in assists (3), blocks (3) and steals (2), respectively.

WPI shot 45.9 percent from the field compared to BSU's 40.0 percent while both teams scored a quartet of 3-pointers and nine free throws. The Engineers largest margins were bench points (29-18) and fast break points (10-2) as the Bears scored 34 of the 64 points in the paint. Bridgewater State won the first two quarters only to see WPI take the last two, including a 21-9 fourth.
