ROCHESTER, N.Y. – In the opening game of the Chuck Resler Invitational, the Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team used a dominant fourth-quarter performance to overtake host University of Rochester (N.Y.) in a 65-52 victory inside the Louis Alexander Palestra.

Senior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard/forward Hannah Fecht (Hilliard/Davidson) led all scorers with 17 points while junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC guard Riley Schill (Sheffield Village/Elyria Catholic) grabbed a game-high and career-high 12 rebounds.

Freshman forward Jamie Boeheim led Rochester (0-2) with 14 points off the bench. Fellow freshman forward Julianna Okoniewski also chipped in 10 points of her own.

After three made baskets in the first minute of action, both teams' defenses took over the show as over two minutes passed without a field goal. One Rochester broke through the scoreless stalemate at the 6:29 mark, both teams traded baskets in a tightly contested quarter. BW (2-0) got out to a slight 13-10 lead thanks to a Schill layup but Rochester was able to close out the period on a 6-0 run to take a three-point advantage.

The second quarter started out as tightly contested as the first until Rochester used a 7-0 run to take a 25-19 lead with 6:05 left on the clock. BW continued to chip away at the lead throughout the rest of the quarter and came within one points after Fecht nailed two free throws right before halftime.

Fecht went on a personal 5-0 run coming out of the locker room after halftime to propel BW to its biggest lead of the night at the time at 36-32. Rochester kept BW within a few possessions, eventually tied the game at 38-38 and then proceeded to build a five-point lead with 2:09 remaining. Freshman forward Lilly Edwards (Dublin/Coffman) scored her first four points of the night to close out the third period to bring the score to 47-46.

Half of the fourth quarter passed uneventfully, including another scoreless stretch that spanned 3:18, before senior Academic All-OAC guard MacKenzi Matthews (North Royalton) drilled a three-pointer that seemed to swing the momentum of the game. Over the final 5:11 of the game, BW outscored Rochester 15-3 and by a total of 19-5 in the period.

BW will conclude the Chuck Resler Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 17, by taking on Babson (Mass.) College at 6 p.m. inside the Louis Alexander Palestra on the University of Rochester campus.
