Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Claims First Place In The ODAC With A 60-47 Win Over Lynchburg Saturday

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (20-5, 13-3 ODAC) made it nine wins in a row to conclude the regular season Saturday, beating Lynchburg College (20-5, 12-4 ODAC) by a 60-47 score. The win gave E&H the top spot outright in the final Old Dominion Athletic Conference standings for the first time in program history and marked the team's ninth-straight win, tying the longest streak since the 2002-03 season.

Junior forward Taylor Blevins (Abingdon, Va.) became the 14th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point mark during the game on a layup at the 8:51 mark of the third quarter.

How It Happened
- Lynchburg jumped out to a 12-2 lead at the 3:06 mark of the opening period on the way to a 16-6 advantage after one.
- The Wasps closed the gap down to four (20-16) thanks to a 10-4 run to open the second quarter. An 11-0 run over the final 2:47 of the half gave E&H its first lead of the game, highlighted by a three-pointer by junior guard Chloe Harris (Bristol, Va.) at the buzzer.
- Emory & Henry opened the third frame on a 12-3 run to go up 39-26. LC answered with a run of its own to cut the margin to six (43-37) with 10 minutes left to play.
- The four quarter saw E&H go on a 15-3 run to build an 18-point lead with 1:39 to play. The Wasps were then able to cruise to the 60-47 victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sophomore forward Sydney McKinney (Big Stone Gap, Va.) put up a team-high 17 points to go along with four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
- Blevins finished with 12 points on her milestone afternoon sophomore forward Peyton Williams (Saltville, Va.) had five points, seven rebounds and five steals.
- Junior guard Myesha Logan (Roanoke, Va.) chipped in eight points while Harris added seven points.

Lynchburg Individual Leaders
- Caroline Naumann led all players with 27 points and 15 rebounds, going 10-for-18 from the field.
- Olivia DeFrancesco contributed eight points, five rebounds, seven assists and three steals while Alex Allen notched eight points and six boards off the bench.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 45.5 percent (25-for-55) for the game including a 22-for-41 (53.7%) effort in the final three periods. The Wasps hit five threes and went five-for-eight (62.5%) from the line.
- Lynchburg hit just 16-of-50 (32%) of its shots but scored 12 points at the charity stripe (54.5%).
- The Hornets held a 36-31 rebounding advantage and used 13 offensive boards to lead, 10-7, on second-chance points.
- Emory & Henry won the battle down low with a 34-22 margin on points in the paint.
