Keuka College Enters NEAC Tournament on Winning Streak

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Basketball team won their eighth game in a row on Saturday, defeating Cazenovia College 85-53 in a North Eastern Athletic Conference North Division game.

Keuka College (18-5, 13-3 NEAC) had four players in double figures, led by Lauren Anten's (Rochester, N.Y. / Hilton) 20 points. Reighly Melochick (Minersville, Pa. / Minersville Area) scored 16 points and Sam Laranjo (Averill Park, N.Y. / Averill Park) had a game-high five assists to go with her 16 points. Rounding out the double-digits scorers for the Wolves was Sarah Tyler (Newark, N.Y. / Newark) with 10 points.

Keuka College 85 vs. Cazenovia College 53

Keuka College scored the first six points of the game in the first minute of action to take an early lead over the Wildcats. The Wolves were 0-4 from beyond the arc, but Keuka College controlled the paint. The Wolves outscored the Wildcats 12-4 in the paint and led 18-12 after the first quarter.

The defense stepped up for Keuka in the second quarter. They held Cazenovia to just two field goals in the quarter as the Wildcats shot just 15% from the floor. The Wolves led 35-21 at the half.

Cazenovia College outscored Keuka College 19-17 in the third quarter. The Wildcats cut the Keuka College lead to single digits in the quarter, but the Wolves responded. Keuka College pushed the lead back to 12 points, 52-40 going into the fourth and final quarter.

The Wolves offense exploded in the fourth. Keuka College shot 63% from the floor, going 3-7 from three-point range and 6-7 from the free throw line. At the other end of the floor, Keuka held Cazenovia to just three field goals as the Wolves outscored the Wildcats 33-13 in the fourth, going onto the 85-53 conference victory.

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves finished the season as the #2 seed in the North Division of the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Keuka College will host Morrisville State on Tuesday, February 20 in the first round of the NEAC Tournament. The Wolves defeated the Mustangs twice during the regular season. Tipoff is schedule for 7pm at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center.
