William Paterson Women’s Basketball Takes Control Early for 66-57 Senior Day Victory

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (13-11, 10-7 NJAC) took control early for a wire-to-wire win, registering a 66-57 Senior Day victory against Rutgers-Camden (14-9, 11-6 NJAC) Feb. 10. Lone senior Tori Woetzel paced the Pioneers with 16 points and five blocked shots, adding eight rebounds.

 

WP is in sixth place in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) standings with one regular-season game remaining, and has already secured a postseason berth. The top six teams qualify for the NJAC Tournament, with the top two seeds earning byes and the third and fourth seeds hosting the fifth and sixth seeds for first-round games on Saturday, Feb. 17.

 

The Pioneers scored the game's first eight points on their way to a 23-12 lead by the end of the first quarter and a 33-22 edge by halftime. WP's advantage grew to as many as 19 midway through the fourth quarter (57-38, 5:16) as William Paterson enjoyed an 18-8 edge in points scored off turnovers during the contest.

 

Junior guard CeCe Green scored 15 points, junior guard Julie Rovito had 12 tallies and a team-best nine rebounds and seven assists, and junior guard Ashley Castillo added 10 points and five boards.

 

Senior forward/center Michell Obasi notched a double-double for Rutgers-Camden with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

 

William Paterson will finish the regular season Wednesday, Feb. 14, at Kean at 6:00 p.m.
