Baruch Defeats Medgar Evers on Senior Day

The women's basketball team cruised to a 70-33 Senior Day home victory against the Cougars of Medgar Evers College on Saturday afternoon.

The Bearcats clinched the sixth seed into the CUNYAC Tournament that gets underway on Sunday, February 18. The opponent will be announced after the completion of the regular season schedule on Tuesday, February 13.

After a 10-7 start in the first period, the Bearcats were able to take control by quickly scoring 14 straight points as part of their 26-6 run in the second quarter to give them a 36-13 lead at the half. The Bearcats never looked back en route to the home win.

Shannon Barrett led the way with a double-double of 18 points, 16 rebounds and three blocked shots.

Daniela Arias had an all-around performance of 14 points, eight assists, four rebounds, and four steals.

Melinda Spahiu totaled six points, 15 rebounds, and four assists.

Malecka Davis led the hosts with 14 points and five rebounds.

Prior to the game, the team honored seniors Demetra Papadopoulos, Jaclyn ThammakhouneMaria Myrianthopoulos, Daniela Arias, and Shannon Barrett.
