BOSTON -- Elyssa Nicholas had 13 points during the final period as the University of New England rallied from a 12-point deficit to clip Wentworth Institute of Technology, 68-65, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's basketball action on Tuesday evening (Feb. 6) at Tansey Gymnasium.

The Leopards scored seven in-a-row late in the 3rd to push the margin to its peak (56-41), but a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Faith Connors started UNE back heading into the 4th.

The Nor'easters (17-5, 13-2 CCC) tacked on the next eight points in 2:27 to get within 58-54, and then seven straight gave the visitors their first lead in over 26 minutes (61-60) with 3:19 remaining. Sam MacDonald secured the advantage for good with a pair of free throws at the 0:32 mark.

UNE cashed in on 12-of-14 at the line down the stretch, while holding Wentworth to 10 percent field-goal shooting with nine turnovers in the stanza.

Nicholas paced the Nor'easters with a season-high 18 points of her rookie campaign. MacDonald tallied 14 points, as did Ashley Coneys, who also grabbed a game-best 13 rebounds prior to fouling out in the waning minutes. Jocelyn Chaput went for 13 points, eight assists, and five steals.

Coneys and Madalyn Sanborn (12 total rebounds) combined for 16 of the team's 27 offensive boards, which when paired with 30 WIT turnovers, resulted in 28 additional shot attempts (21-for-84).

The Leopards (2-20, 1-14 CCC) got 23 points and eight caroms from Stephanie Mini, and another 16 points out of Sam McGibbon. Haley Sabino contributed 10 points and eight rebounds. Wentworth shot 39 percent (22-of-56) from the floor and doubled-up its opponent with eight makes from behind the arc.

UNE, which has now won the last 21 in the all-time series with WIT, returns home to face Salve Regina University on Saturday (1 p.m.).
