Yeshiva Drops Hard-Fought Skyline Contest to Mount Saint Mary

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's basketball team suffered a Skyline Conference loss to Mount Saint Mary College, 83-41, at Riesenberg Gym on Sunday afternoon. The Knights now advance to 13-1 in conference play (16-5 overall) and maintain first place in the Skyline standings. The Maccabees drop to 2-11 in the conference (4-15 overall).

Leading Yeshiva in scoring was junior guard Nicole Bick, who produced 12 points. Freshman guard Leah Shulmanscored a career-high nine points, while classmate Celia Cohen added six points with three rebounds. Senior forward Michal Alge grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds to go along with three points, three assists, two steals, and a block.

The Maccabees struck first as Bick executed a successful jump shot to give YU a 2-0 advantage. After the Knights jumped out to an 8-4 lead, the Macs scored six unanswered points, capped off by a pair of free throws by Bick, to put Yeshiva up by a score of 10-8, with 4:59 remaining in the quarter. Mount Saint Mary closed out the period with a 15-3 run to go up 23-13 heading into the second.

After the Knights scored a basket, Bick nailed a 3-pointer to pull Yeshiva to within single-digits at 25-16, just over a minute in. The Knights scored five unanswered points to take a 14-point advantage. Shulman answered by taking a feed from freshman guard Adina Rosenberg and draining a 3-point field goal to narrow Mount Saint Mary's lead to 35-24, with 1:30 remaining in the half. With 20 seconds to go, Bridget Kelly hit a pair of shots from the charity stripe to increase the visiting team's advantage to 39-26, and that would be the score at the intermission.

The Knights took complete control in the second half, outscoring the Maccabees, 44-15, in the final 20 minutes. Mount Saint Mary went on to earn the Skyline win, 83-41.

For the game, Rosenberg scored four points with a pair of rebounds and just as many assists. Freshman guard Chana Boltax added three points with a rebound, while freshman forward Chana Weinberg produced two points with a board. Freshman forward Kaley Baker grabbed two caroms, while junior guard Penny Rabin forced a steal. Senior forward Chavi Charlap had a rebound of her own.

For Mount Saint Mary, Kayla Cleare produced a double-double with 14 points and 17 rebounds. Elizabeth Limonta also had a double-double with 10 points and 11 boards, while Lyndsay Pace scored 10 points. Jessica Rina led all players with 16 points, while Jordyn Hallpap dished out a game-high five assists.

Yeshiva will be back in action on Tuesday, for a Skyline Conference matchup at the College at Old Westbury. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
