#9 DePauw Makes it 13 Straight with 64-31 Win over Ohio Wesleyan

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw built a 14-point first-quarter lead against visiting Ohio Wesleyan and gradually extended it before finishing with a 64-31 North Coast Athletic Conference win over the Battling Bishops. The ninth-ranked Tigers improved to 17-1 overall and 9-0 in the NCAC with their 13th straight win, while Ohio Wesleyan slipped to 1-17 overall and 0-9 in NCAC play.

The Tigers scored on their first three possessions of the game as Sydney Kopp buried a pair of 3-pointers in the opening minute and Melinda Franke followed with a layup. DePauw held Ohio Wesleyan without a field goal over the final five minutes of the stanza and finished the period on an 8-0 run to take a 22-8 lead into the second. The Tigers shot 64 percent from the floor in the period and committed just two turnovers.

DePauw pushed the lead to 34-18 at the half before the Battling Bishops closed to within 12 at 36-24 on Claire Sterling's layup with 5:46 left in the third. That was Ohio Wesleyan's last field goal until 4:47 remained in the game as DePauw went on a 20-0 run to make it 56-24. DePauw's Maya Howard scored 14 straight of the Tigers' 18 third-quarter points in a four-minute stretch of the period to put the game away.

Howard led all scorers with 18 points, while Claire Keefe and Kopp each scored 12. Kopp just missed a second straight double-double with nine rebounds and Howard finished with three assists.

Sterling paced the Battling Bishops with 10 points and shared rebounding honors with Nicole Popovich as each snagged seven. Morgan King led with three assists.

DePauw shot 36.7 percent from the field, but buried 16 of 17 free throws. Ohio Wesleyan connected on just 23.1 percent of its field goal tries and was 5 of 10 from the charity stripe. 

The Tigers outrebounded Ohio Wesleyan, 43-33 and committed just eight turnovers.
