Keuka College Downed by SUNY Poly in Women’s Basketball

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Basketball team lost on Saturday in a North Eastern Athletic Conference game to SUNY Poly by the score of 79-63.

Lauren Anten (Rochester, N.Y. / Hilton) led Keuka College (10-5, 5-3 NEAC) with 15 points. Sam Laranjo (Averill Park, N.Y. / Averill Park) had 12 points and led Keuka College with eight rebounds and six assists. Reighly Melochick (Minersville, Pa. / Minersville Area) added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Wolves.

SUNY Poly 79 at Keuka College 63

SUNY Poly jumped out to an early 8-2 lead over Keuka College on Saturday. The Wolves would draw the margin to one point, but the Wildcats led 18-13 after the first quarter.

The Wildcats pushed their lead over Keuka College in the second. They forced 10 Keuka turnovers which led to 11 points. In the second quarter, SUNY Poly outscored Keuka College 12-2 in the paint and led 38-25 at the half.

Keuka College attempted to cut into the lead in the third quarter. They would shrink the lead down to single digits, but the three-point shooting of SUNY Poly was too much. The Wildcats were 6-8 from three in the quarter and led 60-42 going into the fourth.

Reighly Melochick tried to spark a comeback as she scored all ten of her points in the opening minutes of the fourth, but the lead was too much for Keuka College to overcome. SUNY Poly would go onto defeat Keuka College 79-63 at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center on Saturday.

  • Despite the loss, Keuka College still leads the all-time series with SUNY Poly 17-11, however the Wildcats have won the last 10 meetings
  • Keuka College was +20 in rebounding on Saturday. The Wolves grabbed 45 while SUNY Poly only had 25
  • Reighly Melochick hit a pair of threes in the game, moving her into a tie with Brittany Schrock and Jessica Bandrowski on the Keuka College Single Season list. The trio is tied for seventh with 45 three-pointers
  • Sam Laranjo tied her career-high with eight rebounds in the game

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves travel to Morrisville State on Tuesday for a 7pm game against the Mustangs. The Green and Gold defeated the Mustangs 55-48 earlier this season behind 16 points from Lauren Anten and 15 by Reighly Melochick.
