STOCKTON POWERS PAST RAMAPO IN WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ACTION

Mahwah, NJ: The Stockton University women's basketball team defeated Ramapo College today 65-57 in NJAC action at the Bradley Center. The Ospreys improve to 11-7 overall, 7-4 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 5-13 overall and 2-9 in the conference.

Stockton used a 13-point run that stretched over the final minutes of the first quarter and went into the first four minutes of the second quarter to take a 21-12 lead. The run allowed the Ospreys to pull away from Ramapo who had held a 12-8 lead. Stockton saw themselves up 6-4 before the Roadrunners went on an mini 6-0 run of their own as Bridgette Buckalew hit a jumper for a 10-6 score in the first quarter. Sasha Williams and Tia Solomon traded baskets before Stockton's Najha Treadwell sank three straight baskets for the Ospreys to take a 14-12 lead into the second quarter. A three-pointer from Sammi Dabbundo capped off the 13-point run 21-12 with 5:51 on the clock before Alie Wickersheim hit a basket for the Roadrunners 21-14. Stockton outscored Ramapo 6-4 in the final minutes of the second quarter taking a nine-point lead into halftime 27-18.

Ramapo would shrink the lead in the third quarter 31-26 when Buckalew made a basket and was fouled while she converted on her free throw for the three-point play with 8:17 on the clock. Stockton stretched their lead back to 39-28 with an 8-2 run before Ramapo closed the quarter on a mini 4-0 run as Jenna Harsh sank a pair of free throws and Buckalew hit a jumper as the Roadrunners were only down six heading into the final quarter of action. Harsh nailed a three-pointer at the start of the fourth quarter, cutting the lead to three 44-41 before Stockton extended their lead back to 11 on an 8-0 run taking a 52-41 lead with just under seven minutes to play. Hannah Cambel scored a three-pointer for the Roadrunners before Lea Mendolla scored back-to-back free throws between a jumper from Wickersheim as Stockton led once again by ten 56-46 with under five minutes on the clock. Mendolla gave the Ospreys a 13-point lead, the biggest of the game as she hit back-to-back baskets putting the team up 62-49 with 2:31 left. Crawford sank a jumper before Harsh nailed a big three-pointer (1:25) 62-54. Williams scored her 27th point of the game on a jumper before Harsh hit her fourth three-pointer of the day with 56 seconds remaining. Hailee Porricelli tallied the final point for either team, a free throw with 49 seconds on the clock as Stockton came away with the road victory.

Williams led all scorers with 27 points, finishing 11-17 from the field while she recorded a double-double with 12 rebounds. Treadwell collected 16 points and eight rebounds while Mendolla added ten points and four assists. The team shot 45% (24-53) from the field, 9% (1-11) from the three-point line and 80% (16-20) from the free throw line.

For Ramapo, Harsh led the team with 16 points while Crawford added 12 points, two assists and one block. Buckalew chipped in with nine points, seven rebounds and a team leading four assists. Jessica Repasy led the way with eight rebounds while she added four points and two assists. The team shot 38% (24-62) from the field, 29% (5-17) from the three-point line and 57% (4-7) from the free throw line. Ramapo forced 19 Stockton turnovers, which led to 16 points for the Roadrunners.

Ramapo returns to action when they travel to Montclair State University on Wednesday, January 24th for a 6pm game.
