LONGVIEW, Texas- Using a commanding lead on the glass, the East Texas Baptist University women's basketball team earned a commanding victory over LeTourneau University, 68-48, on Monday night. Following the American Southwest Conference victory over LETU, ETBU improves to 13-2 overall and 7-1 in ASC games this season.

Leading the way for the Tigers was Madison McCoy, who tallied 15 points and four assists. Katy Boren added 13 points on three made three pointers. Amanda Wilson chipped in eight points and seven rebounds and Erin Meeks totaled eight points and five boards in 12 minutes of play.

Wilson scored the first points of the ballgame on a layup off the bounce pass by Mallory Stephens one minute into the first quarter. The Yellowjackets responded a minute later with a three pointer to put the home team on top 3-2 at the 7:14 mark of the opening quarter. A jumper by LETU's Sha'Donnaver Young increased the lead to three, at 5-2, with 6:04 to play in the quarter. Meeks and Boren combined to score the team's next seven points to even the score at 9-9 at the 3:25 mark of the period. Both teams would battle back and forth for the remaining of the quarter, with ETBU taking the slight 17-16 advantage after the first.

Wilson once again scored the first points of the quarter, with a layup, this time off of an assist by Kim Childress to give the Tigers the 19-16 lead. Childress capped off ETBU's largest lead of the contest (27-20) with a layup with 5:17 to play until halftime. But the home team stormed back with a 9-0 run to regain the lead, 29-27, over the next four minutes. A layup by Bailey Lindsey at the 1:30 mark tied the ballgame at 29-29, but a three pointer by Keauna Whitfield put the Yellowjackets back on top by three, 32-29, in the final minute of the half. ETBU went into the locker room with a one point deficit (32-31) after a layup by Fallon Hilliard in the final seconds of the half.

ETBU managed to shoot only 35.1 percent from the field (13-of-37) and convert on just 1-of-9 (11.1%) from beyond the arc. The Tigers, however, held the slight advantage on the glass, at 21-19 over LETU.

Opening the third quarter with another score from Wilson, ETBU regained the lead, at 33-32, 18 seconds into the third quarter. A three pointer by McCoy capped a 9-2 run to push the lead back to seven (40-33) for the Tigers. ETBU maintained a seven point lead to the end of the third quarter, at 47-40.

With 7:17 to play in the contest, Boren knocked down a three pointer on the fast break to give the Tigers the 14 point advantage (55-41). ETBU would hold a `15 point lead until another three pointer by Boren increased the lead to 18 (66-48) and seal the game for the Tigers. ETBU went on to defeat LETU 68-48 in the ASC matchup. The Tigers outrebounded the Yellowjackets by 10, 48-38, in the victory.

The Tigers will next face Louisiana College on Thursday, Jan. 18. The game is set to tip-off at 5:30 p.m. in Ornelas Gymnasium.
