DEFIANCE, Ohio – Earlham College women's basketball shot 43.9 percent from the field and held Defiance College to 27.0 percent shooting on its way to a 71-55 romp over the host Yellow Jackets, in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup Wednesday night at the Weaner Center.

Sophomore Zoe Curtis (New Castle, Ind/New Castle) paced the Quakers with 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the floor. Freshman Rosie Newhart (Osgood, Ind./Jac-Cen-Del) and senior Mariah Flynn (Kodak, Tenn./Seymour) each netted 13 points, while sophomore Camryn White (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy) rounded out the double-digit scorers for Earlham with 11 points.

White also led the Quakers on the boards with eight rebounds. Flynn and sophomore Amy Weisner (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) each dished out five assists in the victory.

Earlham (2-14, 2-7 Heartland) held an 18-10 lead after the opening quarter and never looked back in what was essentially a wire-to-wire victory. White's layup at the 8:30 mark of the second quarter stretched the Quaker lead to double figures, 20-10, and a 14-0 Earlham run later in the stanza ended with the Maroon and White holding a 34-12 advantage.

A late fourth quarter run by Defiance (5-11, 3-6 Heartland) nibbled slightly into the Earlham lead, but the Yellow Jackets never got closer than 14 points, 69-55, in the final minute.

Defiance was led by two players in double digits – Sam Ervin with 11 points, and Shelby Stamm with 10 points to go with eight rebounds.

Earlham women's basketball returns home for its next contest on Saturday, Jan. 20, when it plays host to Manchester University. Tip-off at the Druley Performance Gym is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
