KING'S WOMEN'S CAGERS HAND MANHATTANVILLE SECOND LOSS IN 46-39 TRIUMPH

WILKES-BARRE — The King's College women's basketball team picked up its biggest victory of the season as the Lady Monarchs handed MAC Freedom Conference rival Manhattanville College a 46-39 setback Saturday in Scandlon Gymnasium.

With the win King's improved to 8-7 overall and 3-1 in league competition. Manhattanville, meanwhile, slipped to 11-2 and 2-1.

Both teams struggled offensively in the first half as King's built a 7-6 lead, but the Lady Monarchs outscored the Valiants 16-8 to take a 23-14 lead into the halftime break.

In the third quarter, King's pushed the lead to 26-16 after two foul shits from Olivia Hoffman and one-of-two free throws by Rebecca Prociak with 7:06 on the clock. Manhattanville cut the lead to seven points on two occasions but the Lady Monarchs used four straight points from Prociak, one-of-two foul shots by Rachael DeTore, and an inside basket from Sara Wolbert to build its biggest lead of the game at 35-23 with 0:27 left in the period. The Valiants would score a late bucket to close to within 35-25 entering the fourth quarter.

Manhattanville would chip away and cut the lead to 40-33 with 3:05 to plat on a Kayleah McGuire bucket. After the teams traded a series of misses and turnovers, the Valiants got a three-pointer from Spencer Shote to trim the score to 40-36 with 0:58 to play.  But with the Valiants choosing to foul, Mackenzie Yori made 6-of-8 charity tosses the rest of the way to seal the victory and hand the Valiants their first loss since November 18.

Prociak led King's with 13 points and nine rebounds while Yori added nine points. Olivia Hoffman contributed six points, 14 rebounds, and five blocks while Alexis Steeber added six points and four boards.

Shore, Joiada Darnell, and McGuire all had eight points to pace the Valiants.

King's returns to the court Wednesday with an 8:00 PM matchup at Misericordia University in Dallas.
