Lady Royals Shake Off Slow Start to Notch Ninth Straight Victory

The University of Scranton's women's basketball team rattled off 22 straight points to erase a five-point first quarter deficit on its way to a 66-41 victory over Goucher College in Landmark Conference action on Saturday afternoon in the Long Center.  The Lady Royals, currently ranked 18th in the nation, lift their record to 14-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play while extending their win streak to nine games.

Katie Feehery (Media, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) came off the bench to score a game-high 14 points on 6-9 shooting from the field for Scranton while Sofia Recupero (Whitestone, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) added 12 points for the Lady Royals, who received points from 11 of the 12 players who saw action in the victory.

Goucher (0-14, 0-4 Landmark) built a 9-4 lead over the first seven minutes of Saturday's contest after holding Scranton scoreless over the first 4:49 as the Lady Royals missed their first five field goal attempts.

Scranton closed the first quarter with a 9-0 run which included six points from Feehery to hold a 13-9 edge at the end of the stanza.  The hosts then tallied 13 straight points of the second period to claim a 26-9 lead when Bridgette Mann (Canadensis, Pa./Wallenpaupack) connected on a three-pointer.

The Lady Royals would lead by as many as 21 points before taking a 32-13 lead into the break at halftime as the hosts outscored the Gophers 28-4 in the final 12:58 of the first half.

Goucher netted a field goal to opening the third stanza before Scranton used a 15-4 surge to extend its advantage to 28 points midway through the frame.  The Lady Royals' lead remained at 20-plus points the rest of the way and swelled to as many as 31 points before the Gophers netted the final six points of the contest.

Josie Barrett (Ambler, Pa./Upper Dublin) scored a season-high nine points while going 3-4 from three-point range while Mann and Makenzie Mason (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) finished with eight points apiece.  Mann also dished out a game-high four assists. 

Ava Gammo (East Hanover, N.J./Hanover Park) was Scranton's leading rebounder with six boards while Feehery and Lily Warhaftig (Harlem, N.Y./Poly Prep) blocked three shots apiece.

Nailah Jones and Mya Lewis led Goucher with 12 points apiece while Nicole Wolard recorded a double-double on 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Lady Royals will be back in on Wednesday evening as they welcome Moravian College to the Long Center for a Landmark Conference game starting at 7:00 p.m.
