Trinity Women's Basketball Wins At Coast Guard

New London, Conn. - Junior forward Erin Cunningham (Wilton, Conn.) connected on seven of eight attempts from three-point range and finished with a career-high 28 points and a team-high nine rebounds to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to an 83-58 win over the United States Coast Guard Academy in women's basketball action this afternoon.  Trinity improves to 9-2 entering its New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) opener at No. 3-ranked Amherst on Friday night at 7 p.m., while the Bears drop to 4-5.

Cunningham was 3-for-4 from behind the arc in the first half for nine points before scoring 19 points in the second half as finished 9-for-12 from the floor overall.  Trinity junior guard Erica Junquet (Monroe, N.J.) added 18 points while classmate Becky Reifler (Garden City, N.Y.) finished with 12 points.  Senior Gillian Gerton led the Bears with 18 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, and junior Jayla Joyner had a season-high 10 points off the bench.  The Bantams were 12-for-25 from three-point range (48%) and hit 27 of 58 shots from the floor (46.6%).  Coast Guard was 22-for-68 from the field (32.4%) while making just four of 20 tries from behind the arc.

Trinity used a 14-2 run to end the first quarter and led, 21-6.  Coast Guard scored the final seven points of the first half to cut the deficit to 37-31 at the break.  The Bantams took control of the game in the third using an 11-2 run to push the lead to 55-39 with 3:04 left in the third. Trinity led 65-47 after three quarters.  Trinity did not let up in the fourth, scoring 12-straight points to take its largest lead of the game 81-54 with 3:39 left.
