BELOIT, WIS. – Junior forward/center Beth Schaefer (Fort Wayne, Ind.) turned in the second double-double of her 2017-18 season and third of her collegiate career, leading Manchester University in non-conference action Saturday, Dec. 30.

Even with her efforts in tow, it wasn't enough to steer the Spartans (2-9) past Beloit College. BC withstood a balanced offensive attack by their guests, surging in the extra session to a 69-64 decision.

Schaefer hit on five-of-13 field goal attempts and was four-of-eight at the charity stripe in route to 14 points. She also heckled the Buccaneer offense and defense with 11 rebounds, three of which were on the offensive end, four steals and a blocked shot. Sophomore guard Nicole Weaver (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and freshman guard Mikalia Taylor (Connersville, Ind.) joined their upperclasswoman teammate in point double figures with 14 and 16, respectively. Weaver was also a team statistical leader, dishing off three assists.

The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference – Midwest Conference battle went back and forth throughout at Flood Arena inside the Beloit College Sports Center. Coach Josh Dzurick's side held as large as a nine-point advantage in the first half, but the host Buccaneers rallied and gain as big as a five-point lead in the final stages of regulation.

MU returns to conference play Wednesday, Jan. 3. They are back home at Stauffer-Wolfe Arena for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off against Franklin College.
