Kings Women Edged by Albright in Final Game of Semester

KING'S WOMEN'S CAGERS FALL TO ALBRIGHT, 65-58

WILKES-BARRE — The visiting Albright College women's basketball team outscored host King's College 9-3 over the game's final 3:31 as the Lions posted a 65-58 victory Sunday in Scandlon Gymnasium.

With the win, Albright improved to 5-4 on the year while King's slipped to 5-3.

King's trailed much of the game and didn't take its first lead of the second half until 2:49 remained in the third quarter on an inside bucket by Rebecca Prociak. The Lions, however, would recapture the lead when a Jane Joyce bucket at the 1:36 mark and one of two free throws by MiKayla Lee with 0:09  left gave Albright a 53-51 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

From there, the Lions used a three-pointer by Nina Mazzarelli to take a 55-51 lead, but King's countered with a Lindsey Dippre trey to close to 55-54 with 9:11 to play.

Both teams went scoreless for nearly a five-minute span before Alexis Steeber scored inside for King's to give the Lady Monarchs at 56-55 lead with 5:17 on the clock.  After the teams traded a series of missed shots and turnovers, Albright reclaimed the lead with another three-pointer by Mazzarelli gave the Lions a 58-56 lead with 3:31 remaining.

King's had a chance to tie the game with 3:02 left but missed both ends of a two-shot foul. The Lady Monarchs were registered for a foul on the other end of the floor as Devan Horka made one-of-two attempts to push the score to 59-56 with 2:45 on the clock.

After a King's miss with 0:57 left, Horka scored on a driving lay-up with 0:31 to go to extend the lead to 61-56.  King's would turn the ball over with 0:23 left and were forced to foul. Joyce made the first of two attempts to bring the score to 62-56 but the Lions secured a critical offensive rebound to retain possession. King's once again fouled with 0:15 to play and Alysha Lofton converted both attempts to up the Lion lead to 64-56.

King's would miss on a three-point attempt with 0:08 on the clock and again fouled. Mazzarelli made one-of-two shots to give bright a 65-56 lead. King's added the game's final score on a Steeber layup with 0:01 on the clock to set the final score.

Lofton led bright with 21 points while Mazzarelli added 19 points, including four three-pointers.

Steeber led King's with 16 points and six rebounds while Mackenzie Yori followed with 14 points and three assists, including four three-pointers.  Prociak had a double-double with 11 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. Olivia Hoffman chipped with eight point and six rebounds while battling foul trouble.

King's will be idle until December 29-30 when the Lady Monarchs play in the Jamie Lynn Robert-Fairfield Inn Holiday Tournament at Catholic University n Washington D.C.
