The No. 13 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team remained undefeated for the 2017-18 season Tuesday night with a 64-32 triumph over Milwaukee School of Engineering in a non-conference affair at Kachel Gymnasium.
Senior guard Brooke Trewyn became the 16th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points after knocking down an 18-foot jumper from the left corner on the team's second possession of the game to hit the milestone. She finished the game with 11 points and eight rebounds and passed former teammate Abbie Reeves (2012-16) for 15th on the team's all time career scoring list.
Sophomore guard Camri Conley tallied 11 points, and senior guard Malia Smith registered nine points and five rebounds. Senior forward Andrea Meinert and junior center Becky Deichl grabbed seven rebounds apiece for the Warhawks (7-0 overall), who outrebounded the Raiders 55-27 in the game, including a 23-6 margin on the offensive glass.
A total of 21 UW-Whitewater players saw at least two minutes of action in the game.
The Warhawks started the contest on a 21-3 run and didn't look back, taking a 26-8 advantage through the first quarter.
MSOE (3-4) whittled its deficit down to 11 by the 7:05 mark of the second quarter, but UW-Whitewater responded with an 8-0 run to push its lead to 36-17 with 3:53 left in the period.
Smith gave the Warhawks a 21-point lead one minute and 30 seconds into the third, and the team expanded its advantage to 28 by the end of the quarter thanks to a layup by Deichl.
Sophomore forward Morgan Rosencrants ran UW-Whitewater's lead to a game-high 32 points with 6:17 remaining on a layup, and sophomore guard Auhea Simmons matched the margin on a layup in the closing seconds.
The Warhawks outscored the Raiders 32-14 on points in the paint, 19-5 on second-chance points and 29-6 on bench points.
UW-Whitewater hits the road next week for the two-day Cruzin' Classic in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The team begins play Monday, Dec. 18, against Eastern Connecticut State at 3 p.m. Central Time.
