Bick Scores Career-High as Yeshiva Falls to Purchase College

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's basketball team suffered a Skyline Conference loss to Purchase College, 73-61, at the Purchase College Gymnasium on Thursday evening. Yeshiva falls to 2-7 overall, and 1-4 in Skyline play, while the Panthers advance to 3-5 overall, and 1-3 in the conference.
 
Leading the way for Yeshiva was junior forward Nicole Bick, who scored a career-high 28 points, to lead all players. She brought down a rebound, distributed an assist, and forced two steals. Senior forward Michal Alge produced a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 16 rebounds, while blocking a shot. Freshman forward Celia Cohen brought down 15 caroms, scored seven points, and tied a game-high with four dimes.
 
In the opening quarter, a 3-pointer by Bick narrowed YU's deficit to 17-13 with 2:20 left. Down 21-13, Alge successfully converted a layup at the buzzer to cut the Macs' deficit to six at the end of the first quarter.
 
Yeshiva outscored Purchase, 16-14, in the second period. In that frame, freshman forward Lindsay Brandweinlaid the ball up and in to narrow the Panthers' lead to 29-25, with 4:01 left in the half. Later in the quarter, Bick converted a layup of her own to cut Purchase's lead to three, at 32-29, with 1:22 remaining. After the home team extended its lead to 35-29, Bick added another successful layup with two seconds remaining, to pull Yeshiva to within four at the half.
 
In the beginning of the third quarter, Cohen pulled down an offensive rebound. Sophomore guard Laura Beteshwould take advantage by converting a layup on the same possession to narrow the opposition's lead to 35-33. The Panthers scored six unanswered points to go up 41-33. Bick and Betesh combined to hit back-to-back jumpers to pull Yeshiva to within four, at 41-37, with 6:55 left in the period. Purchase would counter by going on a 13-1 run, in a span of 3:57, to take a commanding 54-38 lead. The quarter would end with the home team up, 54-44.
 
Yeshiva never pulled to within single-digits at any point in the fourth quarter. The Panthers went on to earn the Skyline win, 73-61.
 
For the game, freshman forward Brandwein and Betesh each scored six points, with the former grabbing five rebounds, dishing out an assist, and forcing a steal, while the latter had one board, one assist, and one steal. Freshman guard Adina Rosenberg scored two points with a rebound, while classmate Chana Boltax dished out an assist and forced a steal. Junior guard Penny Rabin had a rebound and a steal, while freshman guard Leah Shulman distributed a dime.
 
Yeshiva will host St. Joseph's College Long Island in a Skyline Conference matchup on Saturday evening, at the Nat Holman Gymnasium, beginning at 8:30 p.m.
