UMHB women fall at East Texas Baptist

Marshall, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team could not overcome cold second-half shooting as the Cru fell to East Texas Baptist 66-56 Saturday afternoon in Marshall. The loss drops UMHB to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in American Southwest Conference play. The Tigers improve to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the ASC with the victory.

 

The Cru opened the game with an 11-2 run and UMHB led 22-18 after one quarter. ETBU took its first lead of the game at 25-22 early in the second period and the Tigers led 34-32 at halftime. The Cru fought back to take a six-point lead early in the third, but ETBU held UMHB to just 2-10 shooting in the fourth to pull away for the ten-point win.

 

Meghan Turner led the Cru with 10 points and Kendall Rollins scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds. Alicia Blackwell pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for UMHB and she added four assists. The Cru shot just 29 percent from the field and only hit 6-23 from three-point range. UMHB out rebounded ETBU 46-42, but turned the ball over 21 times in the loss.

 

Kim Childress had a team-high 14 points for the Tigers and she also grabbed nine rebounds. Five other players had six or more points in a balanced scoring effort for ETBU. The Tigers shot 50 percent from the field in the first half and finished at 38 percent for the game. ETBU also went 15-21 from the free-throw line.

 

The Cru will now return home to host a pair of games next week. UMHB will host U.T.-Dallas in an ASC showdown on Thursday before facing Southwestern University in a non-conference contest on Saturday.
