SUSQUEHANNA WOMEN RALLY PAST KING'S 62-61

WILKES-BARRE — The visiting Susquehanna University women's basketball team overcame an eight-point fourth quarter deficit to post a 62-61 victory over host King's College in a non-conference matchup Wednesday night in Scandlon Gymnasium.

With the win, Susquehanna improved to 3-1 while King's slipped to 3-2.

King's took a 44-39 lead into the fourth quarter and used a three-pointer from Erin Schmidt to stretch the lead to 47-39 with 9:05 to play. But the River Hawks strung together a 16- 9 spurt to take a 55-53 lead on a Maddie Murray jumper with 3:18 to play.

King's countered with a traditional three-point play from Alexis Steeber to go back on top 56-55 at the 1:57 mark, but Courtney Adams scored inside, then added one-of-two free throws on the next possession to put Susquehanna on top 58-56 with 1:06 remaining.  After a KIng's turnover with 0:44 on the clock, King's was forced to foul and Bailey Trell made both free throws to extend the River Hawk lead to 60-56 with 0:22 left.

King's cut the lead to 60-58 on a driving lay-up by Steeber with 0:06 to play and KIng's fouled Tess Nichols on the inbounds pass with 0:04 left.  Nichols made both charity tosses to give Susquehanna a 62-58 advantage with 0:04 to go.

After a King's timeout, Mackenzie Yori canned a three-pointer for the Monarchs to bring the score to 62-61 with 0:01 left.  With King's needing to steal the inbounds pass, Susquehanna managed to successfully put the ball in play to run out the clock and walk away with the victory.

Rebecca Prociak led King's with 17 points and four rebounds while Olivia Hoffman followed with 12 points, eight rebounds, and five blocks. Lindsey Dippre had 11 points and two assists while Steeber posted 10 points and seven boards. Schmidt had six points while Yori contributed five points and four steals.

Susquehanna was led by Adams with 28 points, nine rebounds, six blocks, and three steals while Murray followed with 14 points and five boards. Megan McFadden posted a game-high 13 rebounds with five points while Nichols added eight points.

King's will return to the court Monday with a 7:00 PM matchup at Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ.
