Livramento's Double-Double Paces RIC in, 54-44, Win Over Wildcats

Providence, R.I.-Sophomore forward Ornela Livramento (Pawtucket, RI) recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Rhode Island College women's basketball team to a 54-44 victory over intra-city rival Johnson & Wales in a non-conference contest played at The Murray Center on Wednesday evening. The win was the fifth of the season for RIC, equaling the program's win total from all of last year.

HOW IT HAPPENED

•  RIC sophomore guard Jordyn Gauvin (Fall River, MA) scored a game-high 15 points, added four rebounds and dished out four assists in the victory.

• Senior guard Jessa Rubera (Newton, MA) tallied nine points with three rebounds and two steals for the Anchorwomen.

•   Sophomore forward Emily Beauvais (Greenville, NH) led Johnson & Wales with 10 points and six rebounds.

• Senior guard Raquel Pederzani (Coventry, RI) added nine points, four rebounds and two assists in the loss for the Wildcats.

• The first quarter was a back and forth affair with the score tied five times before RIC took a 19-17 lead on a pair of free throws from Gauvin to end the quarter.

• RIC built on its lead throughout the second quarter and took a 30-23 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.

• The Anchorwomen grabbed their first double-digit lead of the contest when a three-pointer from Gauvin made the score 35-25 with 7:43 left in the third quarter. JWU answered and cut the lead down to four, 42-38, after three quarters of action.

• RIC regained the double-digit lead after a layup from freshman forward Sierra Stewart (North Providence, RI) put the team up by 10, 50-40, with just under five minutes left in regulation. The Anchorwomen would then cruise to the 54-44 victory.

 

BY THE NUMBERS

• RIC shot 40.4% percent (21-of-52) from the field, 26.7 percent (4-of-15) from the three-point line and 66.7 percent (8-of-12) from the free throw line.

 

• Johnson & Wales shot 31.1 percent (19-of-61) from the field, 14.3 percent (2-of-14) from the three-point line and 36.4 percent (4-of-11) from the free throw line.

•  Johnson & Wales outrebounded RIC by a 40-36 margin, while RIC forced Johnson & Wales into 14 turnovers in the contest.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will open Little East Conference play at home vs. Eastern Connecticut on Saturday, Dec. 2 (1 p.m.).
