Lindsey Krisak (Alexandria, Va./Thomas A. Edison) hit a left-handed floater in the lane with 8.7 seconds left to give the EMU basketball women a 59-57 win over Randolph College Tuesday night in Harrisonburg. The final bucket pushed Krisak to a season-high 17 points as the Royals snapped a three-game losing streak.

Eastern Mennonite improved to 3-3 in the ODAC opener for both teams, while Randolph fell to 2-3.

Krisak's game-winner also ended a 9-0 scoring streak by the WildCats, who had erased EMU's 57-48 lead. The Royals took what looked like a comfortable cushion after Krisak hit back-to-back jumpers from the right wing, putting the Royals ahead by nine with 3:53 to play.

Randolph then scored on five straight possessions, tying the game at 57-57 when Alexis Calloway made the second of two free throws with 29 seconds left. After Krisak's go-ahead shot, the Royals played tough defense, burning a foul with three seconds left before forcing a long jumper from Taylor Samuels at the buzzer. Samuels' shot hit more of the backboard than the rim, leaving EMU with the win in regulation.

The teams finished with identical shooting percentages, each hitting 22-of-51 attempts. Both hit five three pointers as well. The Royals made the difference in volume at the free throw line, going 10-17 from the stripe compared to 8-13 for Randolph.

Hope Simmons (Dayton, Va./Turner Ashby) also made a crucial play with 5:50 remaining, grabbing an offensive rebound under the hoop and drawing the fifth foul on the WildCat's Daijah Johnson. Besides leaving the game with 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists, Johnson proved Randolph's main offensive creator, which hampered them especially in the final seconds of the game.

The teams had traded leads in the first period before the WildCats scored the first 11 points of the second to take a 27-17 lead. Brianna Zook (Harrisonburg, Va./Broadway) hit back-to-back buckets before Taylor Baltimore (Bristow, Va./Battlefield) and Lexi Deffenbaugh (Fishersville, Va./Wilson Memorial) splashed in threes to cap a 10-0 spurt in less than two minutes to tie the score. The Royals ended the half on a 15-3 run to earn a 32-30 lead at halftime.

The women then scored the first five of the third period to make it a 20-3 streak. They kept the lead between four and eight points until Krisak nudged it to 57-48 in the final minutes.

Jess Washington (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) joined Krisak in double figures with 14 points along with a team high six rebounds. Zook hit her first four shots from the floor to tie her season high with eight points. The senior forward is shooting 78.9% (15-19) from the floor this season. Cheyenne Suamataia-Teo (Stafford, Va./Mount View) grabbed five rebounds, all in the first half.

Maura McMahon hit four triples to lead Randolph with 18 points. Samuels came in with 10 counters, while Calloway had a game high eight rebounds.

Eastern Mennonite looks to build a little momentum with another home game this weekend, hosting Trinity University Saturday at noon. The women's game will be followed by the EMU men hosting Averett at 2:00pm.
