ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Randolph College women's basketball team capped off its weekend at the Jean Edge Classic with a 69-55 victory over host N.C. Wesleyan College on Sunday afternoon.

The WildCats secured a large 21-7 lead at the conclusion of the first quarter before extending their lead to 24-9 early on in the second period. The Battling Bishops slowly climbed their way back up the point ladder, cutting the deficit to 29-23 at the 3:21 mark, but Randolph managed to stay one step ahead as the WildCats headed into halftime with a 33-26 advantage.

As the third period commenced, Randolph continued to further the point gap for a 48-27 lead. Despite N.C. Wesleyan's best efforts, the Battling Bishops would trail the WildCats by a 16-point margin (54-38) as the game entered the fourth quarter.

N.C. Wesleyan managed to slice the point deficit to 64-55 with 1:57 remaining on the clock but it would be the closest the Battling Bishops would get to the WildCats, who sealed the final 69-57 tally as time expired.

Randolph shot 44.9 percent (22-of-49) from the field, limiting the Battling Bishops to a 29.2 field goal percentage (19-of-65) while shooting 69.0 percent (20-of-29) from the line and holding a 57-33 edge in rebounds. The WildCats also recorded 16 second chance points and grabbed 13 points off the bench.

Kalyn Banks (Clinton, Md./From The Heart Christian School) paced the WildCats with 14 points, shooting 6-of-8 from the floor and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe while Maura McMahon (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) chipped in 12 points, converting 3-of-6 shots from beyond the arc and 3-of-5 shots from the line. Alexis Calloway (Williamsburg, Va./Bruton) finished the game with a double-double 10 points and 11 rebounds while Taylor Samuels (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) added 10 points and five assists. Daijah Johnson (Beltsville, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) also recorded 10 points for the WildCats' offense while tallying four assists.

Both Banks and Samuels were named to the All-Tournament team.

Randolph improves to 2-1 on the season and remains on the road when it travels to Southern Virginia University on Tuesdsay, Nov. 21 for a 7 p.m. contest.
