BROCKPORT, NY – In a game that featured nine lead changes, the Hartwick Hawks couldn't overcome a cold-shooting fourth quarter as they fell to Hamilton College 52-40 on Friday in the opening round of the Brockport Tip-Off Classic at Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.
A layup from Caitlin Corbett (Altamont, NY / Guilderland) with 6:56 left in the game cut a 'Wick deficit to just two points, 42-40, but the Hawks went scoreless the rest of the way, missing their final 10 shots of the contest.

Carly Johnson (Greenville, NY / Greenville Central) led the Hawks with a game-high 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting. She also connected on three of her five three-point attempts on the night. Corbett closed the game with 11 points and tied for a game-high with eight rebounds. She also tied for a game-high three steals. Mary Schoenherr (Unionville, CT / Farmington) also grabbed eight boards for the Hawks.

Brockport was paced by Carly O'Hern, who netted 14 points. Lauren Getman contributed 11 points and Halie Serbent also reached double figures with 10.

The Golden Eagles shot 36.5% (19-of-52) in the game with the Hawks making 28.9% (13-for-45) of their shots. The hosts had the edge on the boards, 37-31.

The Hawks would have the lead throughout much of the first quarter. A layup from Kelsey Collins (Forestburgh, NY/Eldred Central) made it a six-point, 17-11 advantage before they settled on a three-point edge at the end of the quarter.

Hartwick continued to lead in the second quarter until the four-minute mark. Trailing by one, a trey from Johnson gave the Hawks a 25-23 advantage at halftime.

Two Johnson free throws with 7:06 left in the third quarter handed Hartwick a 28-23 lead. Later, the lead would change hands three times before a layup with 5:02 remaining gave Hamilton the advantage for good, 31-30. Hamilton's lead would grow to eight before five straight points from Corbett and a three from Johnson cut it to three, 40-37, at the end of the quarter.

Hartwick trimmed the gap to two twice early in the final quarter before going cold from the floor the rest of the game.

The Hawks will play host Brockport tomorrow at 5 p.m. in the final game of the Classic.
