#12 DePauw Advances to NCAC Semifinals with 90-56 Win over Wooster

Greencastle, Ind. - Senior guard Lex Gaumer poured in a career-high 17 including nine straight during a late second quarter stretch to lead top-seed DePauw to a 90-56 win over eighth-seed Wooster in the quarterfinals of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. 

The 12th-ranked Tigers improved to 24-2, while the Fighting Scots finished their season at 3-23. DePauw hosts the semifinals and championship rounds of the NCAC Tournament this Friday and Saturday. The Tigers open play with a 5 p.m. semifinal contest against Oberlin after the Yeowomen topped Hiram, 60-43 in one of tonight's quarterfinal matchups. 

Never trailing in the game, DePauw scored the final 11 points of the first quarter to take a 28-13 lead at the end of the opening stanza.

Wooster was within five at 33-28, but the Tigers closed the half with an 11-1 run to grab a 44-29 halftime advantage. Gaumer's three-point play and three-point field goal started the run before Kylie Morris added a pair of free throws and Melinda Franke ended the half with a trey to make it 44-29.

The Fighting Scots got as close at 15 midway through the third, but the Tigers ended the quarter with a 12-3 stretch to take a 67-43 lead with one quarter remaining. DePauw sealed the win with 12 straight to start the fourth which capped a 16-0 run.

Gaumer hit 6-of-8 from the field including 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. Maya Howard and Claire Ryan each added 14. Morris hauled down nine rebounds, while Ryan dished out six assists and recorded three steals.

Cat Fiorito paced Wooster with 19 points, while Anna Gibbs, Danielle Besancon and Christina Vukovich each had four rebounds. Anna Gibbs led the Fighting Scots with six assists.

DePauw shot 50.7 percent from the floor to Wooster's 29.4 percent and the Tigers held a 47-33 edge on the boards.
