Tigers Come Up Short at Redlands

More news about: Occidental

REDLANDS — Tala Ismail led the Occidental women's basketball team with 15 points and nine rebounds, and Triana Anderson added 12 points and six boards in a 60-55 loss at Redlands on Saturday.

The Tigers got off to a fast start and finished strong, but got stuck in a rut during the second and third quarters that put them too far behind. Oxy was outscored by the Bulldogs 32-22 during the middle 20 minutes.

Emily Leonard, who finished with six points, nine rebounds and three blocks, scored to cut the Redlands lead to 57-45 with 1:33 remaining, but that's as close as Oxy would get. Ta'amu Reyna made a pair of free throws on the Bulldogs' next possession to push the lead back to five.

Shariah Green chipped in nine points and seven rebounds for the Tigers.

Jade Cheldelin led all scorers with 19 points for the Bulldogs.

Neither team shot the ball particularly well. Oxy finished at 31.3 percent and Redlands was only a little better at 33.3 percent.

Season Impact: Oxy falls to 12-11 overall and 8-6 in SCIAC play.

Redlands goes to 12-10 and 9-4.

With two games to play and three for Redlands, Oxy trails the Bulldogs for the fourth-and-final SCIAC Postseason Tournament spot.

Next Game: The Tigers play Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday at 7 p.m. is their final home game of the season.
