The No. 24 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team forced 27 turnovers, tied for the second-most by an opponent in one game this season, on its way to a 57-37 triumph over UW-River Falls in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Senior Day and Play4Kay Day at Kachel Gymnasium.
The Warhawks (19-4 overall, 9-3 WIAC), who maintained their one-game lead over UW-Stevens Point for second place in the conference standings, also held a 26-11 advantage in points off turnovers and collected 16 steals.
Senior guard Reilly Stewart and freshman guard Becky Raeder tallied 11 points apiece to lead UW-Whitewater. Junior guard Brooke Trewyn registered her fifth double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds (five offensive).
Sophomore forward Olivia Freckmann totaled eight points, six rebounds, four steals and two blocks, and sophomore center Becky Deichl recorded eight points and seven rebounds.
Stewart and fellow senior Andrea Olsen were recognized in a halftime ceremony as part of their last regular season home game. The duo has been a part of 78 wins, two NCAA Tournament appearances, one Final Four and one WIAC championship over the last four years.
The Warhawks also recognized four breast cancer survivors during the quarter break in the first half in recognition of Play4Kay, a nationwide effort to raise awareness and funds for women's cancer. Proceeds from t-shirt sales and Pass the Bucket will be donated to the organization.
After taking an 18-12 lead after one quarter, UW-Whitewater started the second on a 9-2 run to increase its advantage to 27-14 with 5:49 remaining in the frame.
Armed with a 30-18 lead at the half, the Warhawks briefly allowed the Falcons (7-16, 2-10) to draw within single digits at the 8:21 mark of the third quarter.
A pair of free throws by junior guard Malia Smith gave UW-Whitewater a 44-29 lead through three quarters, and the team started the fourth on a 10-0 run to take a 25-point lead with 7:20 remaining.
The Warhawks visit No. 14 UW-Oshkosh, which leads UW-Whitewater by two games for first place in the league standings, Wednesday at 7 p.m.
