No. 4 Thomas More Defeats Waynesburg to Clinch PAC Regular Season Title

(WAYNESBURG, Pa.) – The No. 4-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team clinched the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) regular season out-right today (Saturday, February 11, 2017) as it defeated Waynesburg University, 89-56, at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania.

With the win, the Saints improve to 23-0 overall and 16-0 in the PAC.  By winning the PAC regular season, Thomas More clinches the No. 1 seed in the PAC Championship Tournament and will host the tournament's semifinals and championship rounds on February 24 and 25.  With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 13-10 overall and 9-7 in the PAC.

Thomas More led 10-9 with 6:22 to play in the first quarter and then close out the quarter on a 19-3 run to lead 29-12 after one quarter.  The Saints never looked back as they led 48-30 at halftime and 71-43 after three quarters before winning the game 89-56.

Sophomore guard Madison Temple (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) led all scorers with 25 points.  She was joined in double-figure scoring by junior forward Nikki Kiernan (Cold Springs, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) with 15 points and sophomore forward Shelby Rupp (Milan, Ind./Batesville) with 10 points.  Rupp led the team on the boards with seven rebounds, while Temple pulled down six rebounds.  Temple led the team in assists with four, while Kiernan led the team in blocked shots with four.

Thomas More returns to the Connor Convocation Center on Wednesday (February 15) at 5:30 p.m. as it hosts Saint Vincent College on Senior Night.  The Saints will honor their four seniors prior to tip-off.
