Roberts Nets Career 3-Point Record in Devil Win

(Gettysburg, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team trailed host Gettysburg for the entire game before senior guard Helen Roberts (Oakton, Va./Oakton) put the Red Devils in front with her school record 160th career three-pointer, at the 4:24 mark of the third quarter on Tuesday night.

Roberts dropped three triples on the night, scoring a game-high 19 points with the help of a 6-for-6 performance from the free throw line to lead the Red Devils to a key, 58-51, Centennial Conference road-win.

Roberts knocked down a pair of critical free throws to help seal the win with just 20 seconds remaining, stretching the margin to five before junior Kassidy Lesher (Shoemakersville, Pa./Hamburg) added two more with five seconds on the clock for the final.

Emma Dorshimer opened the game with a three-pointer as Gettysburg jumped out to a 7-2 advantage at the 4:03 mark of the first quarter. Lesher went to work inside and Roberts added a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to 14-10, at the end of the first quarter.

First-year Hannah Heiring (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) tied the game, 16-16, before a 5-0 run put the Bullets in front, 21-16. Roberts hit a pair of free throws and jump shot to cut the margin to one and senior Mary Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) answered a three-pointer from Dorshimer as Gettysburg took a 26-24 lead into halftime.

The Red Devils used back-to-back scores from Lesher and a three-pointer from Roberts to tie the game, 34-34, with 5:03 to play in the third period. Roberts answered a Bullet field-goal with her record-setting triple to give Dickinson a 37-36 lead.

The teams went back-and-forth, playing to a 42-42 tie at the end of the third period. First-year Lauren McBride (Trenton, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's) came on in the fourth, scoring three straight field-goals to put the Red Devils up, 50-46, with 6:45 left to play.

Martin and Lesher answered a Gettysburg score to lead, 54-48, with two minutes on the clock. Emily Gibbons cut the margin to three before Roberts and Lesher hit free throws to close out the game.

Roberts led all scorers with 19 points, going 6-for-6 from the line and netting three triples to hold the school, career (160) and single season (69) records.

Lesher became just the second player in program history to record over 250 rebounds in two or more seasons. She recorded her third straight double-double, scoring 16 points and controlling 12 rebounds while going 6-for-8 from the field and 4-for-5 from the line.

McBride and Heiring each added six points while Jennifer Smith (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) scored six points to go with seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. Martin tallied five points and four rebounds.

Gibbons and Dorshimer each scored 17 points for Gettysburg as the Bullets fall to 15-6 overall and 11-5 in the conference.

The Red Devils improve to 15-7 overall and 12-5 in the conference. They travel to Ursinus College on Saturday for a 1:00 pm tip-off with the Bears.
