Yeshiva Drops Skyline Game to St. Joseph's (Brooklyn)

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's basketball team dropped a Skyline Conference matchup to St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn), 81-59, at the Hill Center on Tuesday evening.

Leading the way for Yeshiva was senior forward Simee Rosner, who scored a team-high 16 points with nine rebounds, and led the team with five steals. Senior forward Tess Blaustein produced 15 points, while grabbing seven boards, dishing out three assists, and producing just as many steals. Junior forward Michal Alge produced a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

After the Bears (6-10, 4-7 Skyline) dominated the first quarter, Yeshiva (2-14, 0-11 Skyline) improved in the second. A three-point field goal by junior guard Andrea Weiss began a 7-0 run for Yeshiva that was capped off by a layup from Rosner to narrow the Bears' lead to 28-16, with 5:14 left in the first half. With just over two minutes left before intermission, Blaustein converted on a pair of free throws to pull Yeshiva to within 10, at 33-23. However, St. Joseph's closed out the half with a 12-4 run to take a commanding 45-27 advantage at the break.

The Bears had the slight edge in play in the third quarter, but Yeshiva outscored the opposition, 16-15, in the fourth. With 13 seconds remaining in the game, freshman guard Laura Betesh drained a three-point field goal to cap off the scoring by both teams. It was not enough, as the Bears earned an important Skyline Conference victory.

For the game, Weiss scored nine points, via three successful shots from beyond the arc. The junior also grabbed two rebounds and forced just as many steals. Senior forward Gavriela Colton scored two points, while grabbing six rebounds, with one steal. Betsh scored five points, with a game-high seven assists, with two rebounds, and just as many steals. Junior forward Chavi Charlap grabbed a career-high three rebounds, while classmate Shira Feen forced a steal, and sophomore guard Avigayil Wiener dished out an assist.

The Maccabees will host first place Mount Saint Mary on Thursday evening, at John Jay College, beginning at 8:00 p.m.
