Slow Starts Hurts Hamline Womens BB vs. St. Mary's

More news about: Hamline

Hamline rallied from a slow start to have three players finish in double figures in a 64-49 women's basketball loss to St. Mary's Wednesday night at Hutton Arena. Alaina Quaranta led all scorers with 15 points. Reilly Geistfeld added 14 and Kaeli Stayer knocked down three three-pointers to finish with 11.

The Pipers trailed 37-15 at halftime and, as happened last Saturday against Carleton, made a late run. Down 43-26 after three quarters, HU scored the first nine points of the final session to get within eight at 43-35. The Cardinals, however, showed why they are a playoff contender with five unanswered points to go on to the win.  SMU held a huge 57-33 edge in rebounds.

Geistfeld had her second double double of her young college career when she added a career high 12 rebounds to her point total. Chloe Graves was held to eight points but had a game high three steals.

Hamline (5-15 overall, 2-11 MIAC) plays at Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday, Feb. 4. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
